Hillingdon Resident Vaccine Experience

A Hillingdon resident gives us their experience of vaccination in a short interview.
COVID-19 Vaccination - my experience

How were you contacted to book your appointed vaccine and were you happy with the booking process?

I was given a link from my GP to book the appointment and yes, I was happy as it was quite a simple process.

Did you have any reservations about the vaccine before you were invited to book your appointment?

I was a bit hesitant at first, especially because of the many theories I had heard about the side effects that some people were rumoured to have had after receiving the vaccine.

Why did you decide to take up the offer of a COVID-19 vaccine?

A few of my family members and neighbours had gotten the vaccine done with very minor side effects, which definitely helped put my mind to ease. But mostly because it’s really one of the only ways we can keep ourselves, as well as our loved ones, safe from this deadly virus.

How easy was it to book an appointment for your vaccine?

I’m not usually very good with technology but found it pretty simple. I received the link on Friday and was able to book my appointment for the following Monday. My GP even called up to make sure the booking went alright.

What was your overall experience of attending the vaccine centre?

Apart from the wait, due to the long queue, it was good. The vaccination staff were helpful and once I got the jab I was kept aside for 15 minutes to make sure everything was okay.

Did you have any side effects after the vaccine?

Apart from an arm ache which lasted a few days, I didn’t suffer from any other side effects.

Do you have any concerns about the waiting period for your second dose of the vaccine?

I’m not too sure about the science behind these vaccines so I was quite worried about how effective this first dose will be by itself. But I have booked my appointment for the second dose which is in 12 weeks’ time, so hopefully everything goes well.

What does having had the COVID-19 vaccine mean to you?

It means that it’ll reduce the risk of me getting COVID-19 and hopefully returning to life before this virus existed.

What would you say to anyone who may be hesitant about taking the vaccine?

Don’t be frightened, it really is for the best. If having this vaccine makes everything back to normal again, then there’s no need for you to worry.

Is there anything you would like to say to the vaccination team?

Thank you for doing your best to help us stay safe and healthy against this virus. I wish you all the best and hope all your efforts are successful.
