What is your experience of accessing GP services?

According to the 2023 Ipsos GP Patient Survey, overall satisfaction with GPs is declining, as patients report increasing difficulty accessing services. We are gathering community insights to understand residents' experiences and preferences regarding access to GP services. Your feedback will help shape future recommendations.

Why do we want to know?

Findings in the 2023 Ipsos GP Patient Survey show that satisfaction with GP services has declined from 83% in 2021 to 71% in 2023. Some individuals report challenges in accessing their GP, with only 54% describing a positive experience making an appointment (down from 56% last year). We aim to gather detailed feedback from residents to understand what factors impact their experiences with GP services.

Why is this important?

GPs are often the first point of contact for healthcare needs, and any obstacles to accessing these services can exacerbate health issues and lead to further strain on the NHS and other healthcare resources.

For example, higher attendance at Accident & Emergency departments among patients in areas of high deprivation, as reported by the ONS, highlights the importance of accessible primary care in reducing healthcare inequalities.

How will your feedback make a difference?

The feedback we collect will contribute to recommendations aimed at improving GP services in a way that reflects the community's needs. By sharing your experiences, you provide insights that can help make healthcare services more accessible and responsive.
