What is your experience of accessing GP services?

According to the 2023 Ipsos GP Patient Survey, overall satisfaction with GPs is declining as patients feel it has become increasingly difficult to access services. We want to hear your experiences and understand your preferences when accessing your GP services.
54% of people had a good experience making a GP appointment in 2023

Why do we want to know?

Findings in the 2023 Ipsos GP Patient Survey show satisfaction with GP services is 71%, down from 72% in 2022 and 83% in 2021. One reason is that people struggled to access their GP, and only 54% reported a good experience of making an appointment (down from 56% last year).

Why is this important?

GPs are the gateway to the NHS; obstacles preventing access to their services can exacerbate health issues and create further difficulties accessing care across the NHS and the services themselves.

With higher rates of attendance at Accident & Emergency departments for patients in areas of high deprivation, as reported by the ONS, and the risk of health inequalities amongst those with protected characteristics, ease of access to primary care is vital.

What can you do now?

We want to hear from you. We want to understand your experience of accessing your GP, your preferences when contacting your GP surgery and attending appointments, and what matters to you the most when accessing GP services.

Your voice will make a difference, and your experiences can help improve care.
