“a problem shared is a problem halved”
“With renewed focus and 5 new services in place, Healthwatch Hillingdon are proud that the work we are doing is ensuring the voice of children, young people and adults in Hillingdon is being heard and is positively influencing and changing mental health services for our residents in Hillingdon.”
Every day Healthwatch Hillingdon sees the effect ‘life’ has on the emotional wellbeing and mental health of our residents. Whether in a care home, school, or hospital, as people tell us about their experience of health and social care, and often so much more, we see their emotions, their stresses and anxieties.
One of the things we have noticed is that after relaying their story, many people show relief and feel so much better for talking to us. Especially when we can offer them advice and support.
There are nearly 33,000 adults and 1 in 10 children in Hillingdon, living with a common mental health issue; and this number is set to rise in the coming years. We thought, wouldn’t it be great if we could talk to them all and see if we could help them to feel better.
Then we saw the Problem Solving Booths, developed by the OWLS social enterprise. A simple concept but a fantastic initiative that is focusing on the mental health of Londoners, which is bringing members of the community together, to have conversations that they might not usually have, about their problems and how they might be able to help and support each other. We would love to bring Problem Solving Booths to Hillingdon. With your vote for our project we would be able to take them in to schools, colleges, libraries, hospitals, shopping centres; The potential is enormous.
With your vote we will be able to raise the profile and understanding of mental health and help to reduce stigma. We can show that you can ask for help at any time and don’t have to wait until you are in mental crisis.
With your vote, people will be able to give or receive, social, emotional or practical support and whether giving, or receiving, people will benefit positively from the experience.
Our project will be a simple, yet effective way to help improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing of Hillingdon’s residents.
It is an opportunity to help build emotional resilience in children, young people and adults to stop them becoming mentally unwell and importantly an opportunity to help those who are already unwell, work towards recovery.
Your vote could make all the difference. Support us to help bring positive mental wellbeing to Hillingdon. And don’t forget to tell your family, friends and neighbours to vote too.
