Healthwatch Hillingdon celebrated a successful launch on September 18th 2013 at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge with over 150 delegates in attendance. Attendees included members of the public, service users, carers, members of the Voluntary and Community and Sector as well as senior representatives from the Hillingdon Clinical Commisioning Group, The Hillingdon Hospitals Foundation Trust, Central & North West London Foundation Trust and the London Borough of Hillingdon.
The event opened with a presentation from Jeff Maslen Chair of Healthwatch Hillingdon with an overview of the role of Healthwatch and what has been achieved so far. Stephanie Linden from the Independent NHS Complaints Advocacy Service VoiceAbility talked about their role of Independent Health Complaints Advocacy, as part of the overall Healthwatch brand. Finally Christine Vigors a Healthwatch England Committee Member, gave the national overview and vision for Healthwatch.
There was plenty of opportunity for attendees to influence Healthwatch Hillingdon’s work programme through two group discussions. The event finished with a brief Question and Answer session with the panel and members of the Healthwatch Board.
Evaluation of the event showed that 83% said they thought both group sessions were good or excellent. 83% also said they had an excellent or good understanding of the role of Healthwatch Hillingdon by the end of the event.
